Women’s Lacrosse

As a Division 1 women’s lacrosse player I like to think that I know a thing or two about the game. They are 4 positions that players can play, Defense, Attack, Midfield, and Goalie. If you play Defense or attack you can not run past the opposite restraining line. This line is around the 30 year line on a football field. As a midfielder you can run freely up and down the field. As a goalie you have a crease that no attackers are allowed in. Some of the rule are different for college lacrosse vs high school and lower. In division 1 their is a 90 second shot clock. The clock starts after a goalie save and the shot has to be on goal for the clock to reset. The players have 90 seconds to get the transition down to offense, set up a play and take a shot. In college defense can run through the crease, in high school defense can not run through the crease, they have to run around it. If there is a 10 goal deficit then the game clock runs. Lacrosse is very popular in Syracuse, Rochester, and Canada. Native Americans actually came up with the game. Men and women play very different. Men wear padding and have a lot of contact while women have no padding and have limited contact.

Books

So I’m not the biggest reader, to be honest I probably haven’t read a book in a couple of years but the few I have read has stuck with me. I will usually start reading and then halfway through the book get bored and find something better to do and never end up finishing the book but I have read a few that I just haven’t been able to put down. These include: The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court by John Wooden and Steve Jamison. I highly suggest reading these!

Saving Money

So today we had to attend a Finical seminar that talked about how to properly budget. Erin Lowry (the girl who ran it) wrote a book called “Broke Millennial” in the book she talks about efficiently budgeting. She has a couple of different budgeting styles: 1. The Cash Diet 2. Tracking Every Penny 3. The Envelope System. The cash diet requires you to only spend and pay with cash. This makes you more aware of what you are spending and having to hand out cash instead of a card will make you less likely to make more purchases. Tracking Every Penny is where you write down every purchase you make, once you do this you figure out your useless spending patterns, this allows you to make cuts. The Envelope System is where you write down on envelopes your different spending categories and put the money into the envelopes. Some examples are: rent, car payments, entertainment. Another thing she mentioned was setting guidelines for the week or month to ward off debts and pay off credit cards. An easy way to make sure you  have enough at the end of the month to pay off your credit card it putting away what you spend on it weekly. I really enjoyed her talk because I am the WORST at saving money, I am more then willing to try her methods.

Weather

Hey there! I hope everything is going well. Its pretty stormy where I live right now and it got me thinking about the weather. I personally hate thunderstorms, even though I’m in college I still think they can be pretty scary. When I was younger around 5th grade we had a terrible snow storm. It hit in the middle of October, trees were crashing down, there was lightning, it was windy and snowing really hard. Our power went out and I remember laying in-between my parents crying because I was so scared. We got off from a week of school which was actually pretty great. We had to sleep over my neighbors house because we didn’t have a generator and were out of power for five days. I was pretty nervous it would happen again so every time it snowed I would cry (I know super embarrassing). I became super obsessed with the weather and went to a news places weather day. I got interviewed and when they asked me about my favorite type of weather I responded with “sunshine”  They continued with “you don’t like rain? Snow?…” I just stood there and stared at the camera. I was a bit camera shy haha. To this day I still get nervous when there is bad weather. I guess some things stick with us.
